Abstract

Dual resource constrained (DRC) systems are those with capacity constraints which stem from both machines and human operators. Such systems are prevalent in real-life industries and resource planning must acknowledge the unique characteristics inherent in different types of resources in order to provide optimal schedules. In particular, the inclusion and consideration of human characteristics is necessary to allow more accurate depictions of realistic situations. This paper proposes an integrated dual resource management and production planning system that is able to evaluate the combined effects of numerous worker related issues such as capability, efficiency and reliability. The resultant information can then be used to produce a set of optimised schedules accordingly. The proposed system will be module based to provide flexibility and allow easy customization to suit different industry needs.
